PowerBook 1 GHz/867 MHz 2002

Equipped with a 1.0 GHz PowerPC 7455 (G4) processor including the AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processing unit, 256k of on-chip level 2 cache, and 1.0 MB of level 3 cache, this PowerBook G4 model came with 512 MB of PC133 SDRAM, a 60 GB Ultra ATA/66 hard drive (4200 RPM), and a slot-loading 1X DVD-R/CD-RW "SuperDrive". It featured pre-installed AirPort (802.11b) and an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 (4X AGP) graphics card with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM. All of this was housed in a 1-inch thick Titanium chassis with a 15.2-inch TFT display offering a native resolution of 1280x854. Options for custom configurations were also offered. When set against its predecessor, the PowerBook G4/800 (DVI), this model was largely analogous but boasted a quicker processor, enhanced graphics, and an integrated "SuperDrive". The inclusion of the SuperDrive was especially significant, marking it as the pioneering notebook to come standard with a DVD-writing capable drive.

This model was celebrated for being the first notebook to integrate a "SuperDrive," allowing users to burn DVDs, a significant innovation at the time. The 1.0 GHz G4 processor, combined with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics, delivered a noticeable performance boost over its predecessor, which was appreciated by creative professionals. Its titanium casing was both stylish and robust, though prone to showing scratches. While the faster processor and SuperDrive were major draws, some users noted the 4200 RPM hard drive could feel sluggish for intensive tasks.
