PowerBook 12-Inch 1.5 GHz 2005

The PowerBook G4/1.5 12" featured a 1.5 GHz PowerPC 7447a (G4) processor with the AltiVec "Velocity Engine" and 512k on-chip L2 cache. It came with 512 MB of PC2700 DDR SDRAM and either a 60 GB or 80 GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive (5400 RPM). Optical drive choices were a slot-loading 8X "Combo" or 8X "SuperDrive." It included built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and AirPort Extreme (802.11g). Graphics were handled by an NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM on its 12.1" TFT XGA display (1024x768). Compared to its predecessor, the PowerBook G4/1.33 12", this model was similar but offered a faster processor, a faster hard drive with "Sudden Motion Sensor" technology to protect against drops, a new "Scrolling Trackpad" for two-finger scrolling, and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR.

This final revision of the 12-inch PowerBook was considered by many to be the pinnacle of the series. The 1.5 GHz processor and the faster 5400 RPM hard drive provided a snappy user experience. The introduction of the Scrolling Trackpad and the Sudden Motion Sensor were innovative features that significantly improved usability and data safety, and users praised these thoughtful additions. It perfectly balanced performance and portability, cementing its legacy as a fan favorite. While the graphics chip was beginning to show its age, the overall refinement and feature set made this model a highly sought-after machine for those who prioritized a compact form factor without major compromises.
