MacBook Pro Mid-2017 13" (Touch Bar)

The MacBook Pro "Core i7" 3.5 13-Inch (Mid-2017) is a custom-ordered version of the "Core i5" 3.1 13-Inch model from the same series, also documented separately for convenience. Apart from the processor, these two models are identical.

This model is powered by a 14 nm, 7th Generation "Kaby Lake" 3.5 GHz Intel "Core i7" processor (7567U) with dual independent cores, 64 MB of eDRAM on the die, and a 4 MB shared L3 cache. It includes 8 GB of non-upgradable 2133 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM (a 16 GB option was available at purchase), 256 GB or 512 GB of flash storage, and an integrated Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 processor that shares system memory.

Externally, it features a 720p FaceTime HD webcam, a slim backlit "second generation" butterfly keyboard with an integrated "Touch Bar," and a large "Force Touch" trackpad. The Touch Bar is a touch-sensitive control that adapts to applications and provides Touch ID login.

It also has a high-resolution 13.3" widescreen 2560x1600 (227 ppi, 500 nits) LED-backlit "Retina" display and a battery with an estimated 10-hour life.

Available in silver or "Space Gray" aluminum, it weighs slightly over 3 pounds (1.37 kg). Connectivity includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, four "Thunderbolt 3" ports (USB-C), and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Compared to its predecessor, this model is almost identical externally but features a more advanced processor and architecture.

The top-tier build-to-order Mid-2017 13-inch MacBook Pro featured a powerful 3.5 GHz 'Kaby Lake' Core i7 processor and advanced Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650. This combination delivered the best performance available in a 13-inch Mac at the time, making it a surprisingly capable machine for its size. Externally, it was identical to the 2016 model, retaining the slim chassis, Touch Bar, and large Force Touch trackpad. This incremental update was all about the speed bump from the new processor architecture, which provided a welcome boost for professional applications. However, it did not address the common criticisms of the design, namely the exclusive use of Thunderbolt 3 ports and the ongoing debate about the feel and reliability of the butterfly keyboard.
