Overview

This Apple Mac mini, the "Core 2 Duo" 1.83 model, is powered by a 1.83 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" (T5600) CPU, which is complemented by a 2 MB on-chip level 2 cache and a 667 MHz frontside bus. The system is configured with 1 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300), an 80 GB Serial ATA hard drive operating at 5400 RPM, and a slot-loading 8X single-layer "Combo" drive for DVD/CD-RW. Graphics are handled by an integrated Intel GMA950 processor, which allocates 64 MB of DDR2 SDRAM from the main memory. An Apple Remote comes with the unit.

For connectivity, the device offers DVI (with an included DVI-to-VGA adapter), Firewire "400", four USB 2.0 ports, and combination minijacks for "optical digital audio input/audio line in" and "optical digital audio output/headphone". It also includes a 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet port, along with integrated AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. While it does not have a built-in 56k modem, an external Apple USB Modem was available for purchase at US$49.

In essence, the "Core 2 Duo" Mac mini line is very similar to the earlier "Core Duo" models. However, as suggested by the name, these systems were released with more powerful processors and more RAM. The Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 model also featured a hard drive with greater capacity.

Every Mac mini model houses its components within a compact and stylish case that weighs 2.9 lbs, measures 6.5 inches square, and stands two inches high. This chassis includes a built-in speaker and relies on an external power brick. Furthermore, no Mac mini system is sold with a monitor, keyboard, or mouse, though a wide range of accessories from Apple and other manufacturers can be acquired separately.

Evaluation

The Mid-2007 Mac mini with a 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor was seen as a modest but welcome refresh, finally bringing 64-bit capability to Apple's most compact desktop.[[1](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQGWl9Ml0_4j6jN-BW6JYqYxPVEYQZkb3bf9As871OfUTvPO8JG4Jvq07ktu1aj69onpljXPOHktiuLSinTJd18lbHgUPE67TtrwIroN-_YKHNnxa9WbnyC4SZhe-U97BQt_kd6Pu7nclQ%3D%3D)] While its performance received a noticeable boost over the previous Core Duo models, particularly in tasks like Photoshop, it was still hampered by its meager 1GB of standard RAM, which had to be shared with the integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics.[[2](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQG2BZ0VgZTBzS_QZTLmGMruH2sD0W4FAmmWZci_tWbbuxjEmk5QE46ux2fYGnTY-KW064Ju3OAoTge4uyxZ6Jr32Spyu80x6L3Gd73sUc5zkxtVm48jkkPh4gnsHn-O_icIzRCl6-zewIh-_RM7VdNptw6XuaafRhxl8yT90YkZ)][[3](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQGLzoPGVKjWfiy24QPb-dCbNr2m-KjO-pFmQJcOYURtma3A2DQKSkD270frJl4MydReQTcx86Gz7GjwqU-X7FcXzz-rntbNFoBjmfwl8PhVPasRRn4oX-aK4H-RBcorJptAf1zC_91LA7okR4tS294d83KbEvsmLiFbmtaq9OoBgtGW8w%3D%3D)] Critics pointed out that the 80GB hard drive was small and slow, and the lack of a DVD burner in the base model felt limiting compared to competitors.[[4](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQE7DRDpN3CWRTMcWnF2qceUb3Mac98CPa10NuIrXySEzWwVHMyfbUFzLjAHYiCO4BxBKLwBGOZ91F65fZJs6ngkfYNQodAedsiRD_UHI3fvTGsYGnOGQXc1vLvJfdLV4fLUduHv_2w67_TQUhBVwe_CvyiQjxtYhcxyMyZt8JnVdffZnXOstw2c)] Despite these shortcomings, its design remained a marvel of compactness and style, making it a popular choice for those seeking an affordable entry into the Mac ecosystem or a discreet home theater PC.[[2](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQG2BZ0VgZTBzS_QZTLmGMruH2sD0W4FAmmWZci_tWbbuxjEmk5QE46ux2fYGnTY-KW064Ju3OAoTge4uyxZ6Jr32Spyu80x6L3Gd73sUc5zkxtVm48jkkPh4gnsHn-O_icIzRCl6-zewIh-_RM7VdNptw6XuaafRhxl8yT90YkZ)] However, a small but noticeable performance lag compared to the 2.0GHz model and stronger offerings from Windows-based small-form-factor PCs made it a less compelling value proposition for those not strictly committed to macOS.[[4](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQE7DRDpN3CWRTMcWnF2qceUb3Mac98CPa10NuIrXySEzWwVHMyfbUFzLjAHYiCO4BxBKLwBGOZ91F65fZJs6ngkfYNQodAedsiRD_UHI3fvTGsYGnOGQXc1vLvJfdLV4fLUduHv_2w67_TQUhBVwe_CvyiQjxtYhcxyMyZt8JnVdffZnXOstw2c)]
