Overview

The Apple Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 is equipped with a 2.0 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" (T7200) processor that has a 4 MB on-chip level 2 cache and a 667 MHz frontside bus. It includes 1 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300), a 120 GB Serial ATA hard drive running at 5400 RPM, and a slot-loading 2.4X double-layer "SuperDrive". Graphics are managed by an Intel GMA950 processor sharing 64 MB of DDR2 SDRAM with the main memory. A bundled Apple Remote is also part of the package.

Its connectivity options consist of DVI (with a DVI-to-VGA adapter provided), Firewire "400", four USB 2.0 ports, combination minijacks for "optical digital audio input/audio line in" and "optical digital audio output/headphone", a 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet port, and integrated AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. An internal 56k modem is not included, but an external Apple USB Modem was available for US$49.

The "Core 2 Duo" Mac mini versions are fundamentally the same as their "Core Duo" predecessors. However, as their name indicates, the "Core 2 Duo" systems were supplied with quicker processors and more RAM. This particular model also features a hard drive with a larger capacity.

All Mac mini models contain their internal hardware smartly packed into a small and sophisticated 2.9 lb, 6.5-inch square, two-inch-tall case that has a built-in speaker and an external power adapter. Furthermore, all Mac mini units are sold without a monitor, keyboard, or mouse, though many Apple and third-party choices are available.

Evaluation

The 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo Mac mini from mid-2007 was praised for its competitive performance against similarly priced Windows desktops, a significant improvement attributed to the new processor.[[2](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQG2BZ0VgZTBzS_QZTLmGMruH2sD0W4FAmmWZci_tWbbuxjEmk5QE46ux2fYGnTY-KW064Ju3OAoTge4uyxZ6Jr32Spyu80x6L3Gd73sUc5zkxtVm48jkkPh4gnsHn-O_icIzRCl6-zewIh-_RM7VdNptw6XuaafRhxl8yT90YkZ)] However, its value was questioned due to a higher price tag compared to competitors from Dell and HP, which often included peripherals like keyboards and mice that the Mac mini lacked.[[2](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQG2BZ0VgZTBzS_QZTLmGMruH2sD0W4FAmmWZci_tWbbuxjEmk5QE46ux2fYGnTY-KW064Ju3OAoTge4uyxZ6Jr32Spyu80x6L3Gd73sUc5zkxtVm48jkkPh4gnsHn-O_icIzRCl6-zewIh-_RM7VdNptw6XuaafRhxl8yT90YkZ)] The 120GB hard drive was considered small compared to what was available in competing systems.[[2](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQG2BZ0VgZTBzS_QZTLmGMruH2sD0W4FAmmWZci_tWbbuxjEmk5QE46ux2fYGnTY-KW064Ju3OAoTge4uyxZ6Jr32Spyu80x6L3Gd73sUc5zkxtVm48jkkPh4gnsHn-O_icIzRCl6-zewIh-_RM7VdNptw6XuaafRhxl8yT90YkZ)] Despite finally getting a much-needed processor upgrade to the Core 2 Duo, which provided 64-bit capabilities, it retained the same pedestrian Intel GMA 950 graphics that shared system memory, limiting its visual performance.[[3](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQGLzoPGVKjWfiy24QPb-dCbNr2m-KjO-pFmQJcOYURtma3A2DQKSkD270frJl4MydReQTcx86Gz7GjwqU-X7FcXzz-rntbNFoBjmfwl8PhVPasRRn4oX-aK4H-RBcorJptAf1zC_91LA7okR4tS294d83KbEvsmLiFbmtaq9OoBgtGW8w%3D%3D)] The machine's key appeal remained its uniquely compact and stylish chassis, making it a winner for those prioritizing space-saving design over raw value and expandability.[[2](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQG2BZ0VgZTBzS_QZTLmGMruH2sD0W4FAmmWZci_tWbbuxjEmk5QE46ux2fYGnTY-KW064Ju3OAoTge4uyxZ6Jr32Spyu80x6L3Gd73sUc5zkxtVm48jkkPh4gnsHn-O_icIzRCl6-zewIh-_RM7VdNptw6XuaafRhxl8yT90YkZ)]
