The Apple Mac mini "Core i7" 2.3 (Late 2012/Aluminum Unibody) is powered by a 22-nm Quad Core "Ivy Bridge" 2.3 GHz Intel "Core i7" (3615QM) processor, with four independent "cores" on one chip and a 6 MB shared L3 cache. It contains 4 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 SDRAM (PC3-12800), a 1 TB hard drive, and Intel HD Graphics 4000, which shares from system memory. It lacks an internal optical drive, though an external one was sold for US$79.

Connectivity options include a Firewire "800" port, four USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, Thunderbolt, combined minijacks for "audio line in (digital/analog)" and "audio line out/headphone (digital/analog)", a 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet port, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and an SDXC card slot.

While appearing identical to its predecessor, this model boasts a faster internal architecture with a more powerful processor and quicker RAM. However, it features slower graphics, but gains USB 3.0 ports.

All Mac mini systems are configured by default without a display, keyboard, or mouse, but a wide range of Apple and third-party accessories are available for purchase.

The late 2012 Mac mini with a quad-core 2.3GHz i7 processor was a performance beast for its size, offering processing power that rivaled much larger desktops.
