MacBook Pro Mid-2017 13" (Touch Bar)

The MacBook Pro "Core i5" 3.3 13-Inch (Mid-2017 Retina Display, Touch Bar, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) is a "configure-to-order" version of the MacBook Pro "Core i5" 3.1 13-Inch (Mid-2017), also documented separately for clarity. Apart from the processor, these two models are identical.

This model is powered by a 14 nm, 7th Generation "Kaby Lake" 3.3 GHz Intel "Core i5" processor (7287U), with dual independent cores on a single chip, 64 MB of eDRAM on the processor die, and a 4 MB shared L3 cache. It comes with 8 GB of onboard 2133 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM (upgradable to 16 GB only at purchase), 256 GB or 512 GB of flash storage, and an integrated Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 processor that shares system memory.

Externally, it features an integrated 720p FaceTime HD webcam, a slim, backlit "second generation" butterfly mechanism keyboard with an integrated "Touch Bar" that adapts to applications and provides Touch ID login, and a large "Force Touch" trackpad. It also has a high-resolution 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen 2560x1600 (227 ppi, 500 nits) "Retina" display and an integrated battery with an estimated 10-hour runtime.

Available in silver or a darker "Space Gray" aluminum, this notebook weighs just over 3 pounds (1.37 kg). Connectivity includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, four "Thunderbolt 3" ports (USB-C), and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Compared to its predecessor, this model is externally almost identical but has a more advanced processor and architecture.

As a custom-configured option, the 3.3 GHz Core i5 model of the Mid-2017 13-inch MacBook Pro offered a perceptible speed advantage over its standard-issue counterparts. This performance boost, driven by the Kaby Lake architecture, was its main selling point. However, it inherited all the characteristics of the 2017 lineup, including the much-discussed Touch Bar and the second-generation butterfly keyboard, which continued to be a source of reliability concerns for some users. The machine's sleek design, four Thunderbolt 3 ports, and excellent Retina display were consistent highlights. Ultimately, this BTO model appealed to users who required the maximum dual-core performance available in the 13-inch form factor at the time, but it did not fundamentally alter the pros and cons of the base model.
