MacBook Pro Mid-2017 13" (Touch Bar)

The MacBook Pro "Core i5" 3.1 13-Inch (Mid-2017 Retina Display, Touch Bar, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) is driven by a 14 nm, 7th Generation "Kaby Lake" 3.1 GHz Intel "Core i5" processor (7267U). This CPU has dual independent cores on a single chip, 64 MB of eDRAM on the processor die, and a 4 MB shared L3 cache. The notebook comes with 8 GB of onboard 2133 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM (upgradable to 16 GB at purchase, but not later), 256 GB or 512 GB of flash storage, and an integrated Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 processor that shares system memory.

Externally, it features an integrated 720p FaceTime HD webcam, a slim, backlit "second generation" butterfly mechanism keyboard with an integrated "Touch Bar" that provides touch-sensitive controls and Touch ID login, and a large "Force Touch" trackpad. It also has a high-resolution 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen 2560x1600 (227 ppi, 500 nits) "Retina" display and an integrated battery offering an estimated 10 hours of use.

This notebook is available in either silver or a darker "Space Gray" aluminum housing and weighs just over 3 pounds (1.37 kg). Connectivity includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, four "Thunderbolt 3" ports (USB-C), and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Compared to its predecessor, this model is externally almost identical but features a more advanced processor and architecture.

The Mid-2017 13-inch MacBook Pro was an iterative update that brought the 7th generation Kaby Lake processors to the lineup. This resulted in a modest but noticeable performance and efficiency improvement over the 2016 models. The Intel Iris Plus 650 graphics also offered a slight boost. However, the core design and features remained identical to its controversial predecessor, including the Touch Bar, the four Thunderbolt 3 ports, and the second-generation butterfly keyboard. While the performance gains were welcome, the keyboard's reliability issues continued to be a significant concern for many users. It was seen as a solid machine for those entering the ecosystem, but not compelling enough for owners of the 2016 model to upgrade.
