MacBook Pro Late 2016 13"

The MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.4 13-Inch (Late 2016 Retina Display, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports) is a "configure-to-order" version of the "Core i5" 2.6 13-Inch model, also documented separately for clarity. Besides the processor, these two models are identical.

This MacBook Pro is powered by a 14 nm, 6th Generation "Skylake" 2.4 GHz Intel "Core i7" processor (6660U), with dual independent cores on a single chip and a 4 MB shared L3 cache. It includes 8 GB of onboard 1866 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM (upgradable to 16 GB only at purchase), 256 GB of removable PCIe-based flash storage, and an integrated Intel Iris Graphics 540 processor that shares system memory.

It also features a 720p FaceTime HD webcam, a slim, backlit "second generation" butterfly keyboard, a large "Force Touch" trackpad, a high-resolution 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen 2560x1600 (227 ppi, 500 nits) "Retina" display, and an integrated battery with an estimated 10-hour runtime.

Available in silver or "Space Gray" aluminum, it weighs just over 3 pounds (1.37 kg). Connectivity includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, two "Thunderbolt 3" ports (USB-C), and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Compared to its predecessor, this model has a completely new, thinner external housing, is available in another color, and has a larger trackpad. However, it swaps a variety of ports for just two Thunderbolt 3 ports and a headphone jack. Internally, it boasts a more advanced processor and architecture, improved graphics, and better speakers, but with reduced battery life.

This custom-ordered Core i7 version of the non-Touch Bar Late 2016 model appealed to users who prioritized raw performance over the new interactive strip. It offered a significant speed boost from the Skylake i7 processor, making it a powerful machine for its class. However, it was constrained by having only two Thunderbolt 3 ports, which limited its professional appeal compared to the four-port models. The second-generation butterfly keyboard remained a point of contention due to its shallow travel and reliability concerns. It occupied a niche, offering more power for those who preferred traditional function keys, but was ultimately a compromise between the future Apple was pushing and the legacy users desired.
