MacBook Pro Mid-2012 15"

The MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.6 15-Inch (Mid-2012/USB 3.0) is built with a 22 nm "Ivy Bridge" 2.6 GHz Intel "Core i7" processor (3720QM). This CPU has four independent "cores" on a single chip and a 6 MB shared level 3 cache. The system comes with 8 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM (PC3-12800) in two 4 GB modules, a 750 GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM) hard drive, and an 8X DL "SuperDrive". It features dual graphics processors—a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory and an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 that shares system memory—plus an integrated 720p FaceTime HD webcam.

The standard version of this model includes an LED-backlit 15.4-inch widescreen TFT active-matrix "glossy" display with a 1440x900 native resolution. A custom configuration was also available with a "high-res" glossy or antiglare 1680x1050 display for an extra US$100.

Connectivity consists of AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0, Gigabit Ethernet, a Firewire "800" port, two USB 3.0 ports, a "Thunderbolt" port, separate audio input and output jacks, and an SDXC card slot.

This model utilizes a "Unibody" aluminum case design, milled from a single block of aluminum. It also features a backlit keyboard, a "no button" glass "inertial" multi-touch trackpad, and a non-swappable battery that provides an Apple-estimated 7 hours of runtime.

In comparison with its predecessor, this model is nearly identical on the outside, with the exception of the new USB 3.0 ports. Internally, however, it boasts a faster processor, architecture, graphics, and RAM.

As the final and most powerful version of the classic unibody design, the high-end Mid-2012 15-inch MacBook Pro was a celebrated workhorse. It combined a potent quad-core Ivy Bridge i7 processor with capable NVIDIA GT 650M graphics, delivering excellent performance for professionals. Its most enduring legacy, however, was its status as the last highly user-upgradable 15-inch Pro model. The ability to easily swap RAM and storage, and even add a second drive in place of the optical drive, made it a legend among enthusiasts and those who valued longevity. While it lacked the new Retina display, its robust build, powerful internals, and unmatched serviceability cemented its reputation as a beloved and highly sought-after machine for years after its discontinuation.
