Based on the Kihei architecture, the Apple iMac G3/400 DV (Slot Loading - Fruit Colors) is powered by a 400 MHz PowerPC 750 (G3) processor with a 512k backside level 2 cache. It includes 64 MB of RAM, a 10.0 GB Ultra ATA hard drive, a 4X slot-loading DVD-ROM drive, and ATI Rage 128 VR 2D/3D (AGP 2X) graphics with 8 MB of VRAM. The system, with its Harmon-Kardon sound, is housed in a translucent, colorful all-in-one case featuring a 15-inch CRT display.
It was available in the same five colors as the earlier "Fruit Colors" iMacs—lime, strawberry, blueberry, grape, and tangerine—but is easily identified by its slot-loading optical drive and dual Firewire 400 ports.
Unlike its predecessors, the iMac "Slot Loading" series is convection-cooled for quieter operation and omits the internal metal housing for a more translucent look. Similar to the lower-end iMac G3/350 (Slot Loading), this "DV" model features a slot-loading optical drive and optional AirPort support. Both models shared superior system bus, RAM, hard drive, video, and sound systems compared to the iMac G3/333 series they replaced. However, the "DV" (Digital Video) model specifically includes a DVD-ROM drive instead of a CD-ROM, plus dual Firewire "400" ports and a VGA video-out port.
