MacBook Late 2006

The Apple MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 13-Inch in Black is equipped with a 2.0 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" processor (T7200), containing two independent processor "cores" on a single silicon chip. It features a 4 MB shared "on chip" level 2 cache, a 667 MHz frontside bus, and 1 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) installed as a pair of 512 MB modules. Storage consists of a 120.0 GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM) hard drive with "Sudden Motion Sensor" technology and a 6X dual-layer write DVD±RW/CD-RW SuperDrive. The system uses an integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64 MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory and drives a 13.3" widescreen TFT active-matrix "glossy" display at a 1280x800 native resolution.

The MacBook "Late 2006 Core 2 Duo" series utilizes the same easily upgradable case design as the original MacBook models. Its connectivity suite is also consistent, including AirPort Extreme (with 802.11n support available via firmware update, alongside 802.11g), Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a FireWire "400" port, two USB 2.0 ports, optical digital audio in/out, and mini-DVI for external display connectivity.

Furthermore, the MacBook "Late 2006 Core 2 Duo" and its "Core Duo" predecessors share identical features like the "scrolling TrackPad", an integrated iSight video camera, an Apple Remote for the Apple Front Row software, the "MagSafe" power connector, a keyboard designed to be "flush against the bed" to prevent screen contact, and a "no moving parts" magnetic latch that secures without a mechanism.

At the time, this black model was distinguished from the standard white version by its higher specifications and unique color scheme, giving it a special presence. Equipped with a 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo processor and a larger hard drive, it offered ample performance for most users. Its matte black polycarbonate body, in particular, gained significant popularity for its cool appearance, although some noted it was prone to showing fingerprints. However, like its white counterpart, its graphics performance was limited, and there were reports of the chassis developing cracks over time. Nevertheless, the premium feel of this black model captivated many, making it one of the most memorable machines in the MacBook lineup.
