iMac PowerPC 7445 (G4) 2003

The Apple iMac G4/1.25 17-Inch (Flat Panel) is powered by a 1.25 GHz PowerPC 7445 (G4) processor with an AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processing unit and a 256k on-chip level 2 cache. It is configured with 256 MB of RAM (333 MHz PC2700 DDR SDRAM), an 80.0 GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive (7200 RPM), a tray-loading 4X "SuperDrive", and NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra graphics with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM (AGP 4X support). Optional cards provide support for AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and Bluetooth.

The internal components are housed within an attractive 10.6-inch half-sphere, ice-white case, which features a chromed stainless steel neck that supports a 17" TFT Active Matrix LCD display. This model came with MacOS X 10.2 "Jaguar" pre-installed (and cannot boot into MacOS 9), as well as an ice-white Apple Pro Keyboard, Mouse, and Speakers. In contrast to earlier convection-cooled iMacs, the "Flat Panel" series is actively cooled by a quiet internal fan.

As the final generation of the iMac G4 series, this 17-inch model boasted performance that was the culmination of the line, featuring a faster 1.25 GHz G4 processor and more powerful NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra graphics. Its support for USB 2.0 and optional AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth was praised for completing the transition to modern interfaces. With its beautiful design unchanged but its internals steadily evolved, it was a highly satisfying machine for many users. Not a few considered this model to be the masterpiece of the iMac G4 series.
