The Apple iMac G3/500 DV Special Edition (Summer 2000) is powered by a 500 MHz PowerPC 750 (G3) processor with a 512k backside level 2 cache. It includes 128 MB of RAM, a 30.0 GB Ultra ATA hard drive, a 4X slot-loading DVD-ROM drive, and ATI Rage 128 Pro (AGP 2X) graphics with 8 MB of VRAM. The system, featuring Harmon-Kardon sound and Firewire "400" ports, is housed in a translucent "graphite" or "snow" all-in-one chassis with a 15-inch CRT display.
This model is similar to the concurrently released iMac G3/450 DV+, but was offered in "graphite" and "snow" instead of "indigo," "ruby," and "sage." The Special Edition also featured a faster processor, double the RAM, and a larger hard drive (30.0 GB vs. 20.0 GB). Compared to the iMac G3/400 DV Special Edition it replaced, this model was offered in "snow" (white) as well as graphite, and had a larger hard drive (30.0 GB vs. 13.0 GB) and a slightly better video processor with the same VRAM. The "Summer 2000" models also upgraded the unpopular Apple USB Keyboard and "hockey puck" mouse to the Apple Pro Keyboard and Mouse.
Apple designated this line as the "Summer 2000" series, referencing summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
