Overview

Introduced quietly without a press release, much like the model it succeeded, the Apple MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.13 13-Inch (White - Mid-2009) is equipped with a 45 nm "Penryn" 2.13 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" processor (P7450). This processor features two independent "cores" on a single silicon chip, a 3 MB shared "on chip" level 2 cache, and a 1066 MHz frontside bus. The system includes 2 GB of 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-6400) installed in pairs (two 1 GB modules), a 160 GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM) hard drive, and an 8X DL "SuperDrive". Graphics are handled by a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M processor with 256 MB of SDRAM shared with main memory, driving a 13.3" widescreen TFT active-matrix "glossy" display (1280x800 native resolution).

The MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.13 13" (White - Mid-2009) uses the same white polycarbonate chassis as the MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 13" (White - Early 2009) it replaced. Connectivity is also identical, featuring AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Gigabit Ethernet, a FireWire "400" port, two USB 2.0 ports, optical digital audio in/out, and mini-DVI for external display support. This model benefits from a larger hard drive and faster memory. Notably, Apple officially states this model achieves 5 hours of battery life, an increase from the 4.5 hours of its predecessor.

Internally, this system shares many characteristics with the MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 13" (Unibody). It is fitted with the same NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics but features a faster processor. However, it uses slower RAM (800 MHz DDR2 compared to the 1066 MHz DDR3 in the "Unibody" models).

Evaluation

Introduced in mid-2009, this model represented one of the final evolutions of the polycarbonate MacBook, featuring solid performance enhancements. The processor clock speed was increased to 2.13 GHz, and faster 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM was adopted, improving overall performance. A key highlight, praised by users seeking strong graphics capabilities at an affordable price, was the inclusion of the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics, which rivaled those in the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The retention of the FireWire port was also a crucial factor for users with existing peripherals. This machine is remembered as a very well-balanced device that successfully combined a reliable design with excellent value for money.
