The Apple Mac mini "Core i5" 2.8 (Late 2014/Aluminum Unibody) is equipped with a 22 nm "Haswell" 2.8 GHz Intel "Core i5" (4308U) processor, which features two independent "cores" on a single chip and a 3 MB shared level 3 cache. It has 8 GB of onboard 1600 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM (upgradable to 16 GB at purchase, but not later), a 1 TB "Fusion Drive" (combining a 1 TB hard drive with a 128 GB SSD), and an integrated Intel Iris 5100 graphics processor that shares system memory.
Connectivity includes two Thunderbolt 2 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi (compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0, and an SDXC card slot.
While this model looks the same as its predecessor, it features a more advanced architecture and graphics, Thunderbolt 2 capability, and faster Wi-Fi. However, it also comes with a processor that has half the number of cores, no longer includes Firewire support, has RAM that cannot be upgraded post-purchase, and no longer supports two 2.5" drives.
By default, all Mac mini systems are configured without a display, keyboard, or mouse, but a wide variety of Apple and third-party accessories are available.
