Overview

The Apple MacBook Air "Core 2 Duo" 2.13 13-inch (Mid-2009) runs on a 2.13 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" processor (SL9600), which incorporates two independent processor "cores" on a single chip, a 6 MB on-chip shared level 2 cache, and a 1066 MHz frontside bus.

It is equipped with 2 GB of non-upgradable 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM, a 128 GB SSD (Solid-State Drive), and an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor sharing 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM with main memory. Additional features include a built-in iSight video camera, a full-size backlit keyboard with an ambient light sensor, and a 13.3" widescreen TFT LED-backlit active-matrix "glossy" display with a native resolution of 1280x800. All components are housed in a slim (0.16-0.76 inch), three-pound aluminum case.

Connectivity consists of AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, a single USB 2.0 port, analog audio out, and a Mini DisplayPort that supports an external 30" display. It lacks internal Ethernet (an external adapter is provided) and also omits Firewire and optical audio in/out.

The MacBook Air "Core 2 Duo" 2.13 13" (Mid-2009) utilizes the same chassis as earlier MacBook Air models, featuring a 13.3" display, a full-size keyboard, and a single-button, "three-finger" trackpad. Internally, it also forgoes an optical drive, includes a battery not intended for user replacement, and its memory cannot be expanded beyond the onboard 2 GB.

However, compared to the "NVIDIA/Late 2008" MacBook Air series, the "Mid-2009" models deliver superior battery life (5 hours versus 4.5 hours), include the Apple 10/100Base-T Ethernet adapter as standard, and were introduced at significantly lower price points. This particular model is also marginally faster.

Evaluation

This model represented the peak performance for the Mid-2009 MacBook Air series, combining the fastest available Core 2 Duo processor with a 128 GB SSD. This pairing resulted in a machine that was praised for its swift performance and responsiveness, making it feel significantly more modern than its hard-drive-equipped sibling. It also benefited from the series' improved battery life and more accessible pricing. While the physical design and port limitations were unchanged, this configuration was seen as the most powerful and desirable version, offering a compelling blend of speed and portability for the era.
