Overview

The Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.66 (Mid-2010) is technically a "configure-to-order" version of the Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 (Mid-2010), but is also presented as a separate model for clarity. Apart from the processor, these two models are identical.

The Apple Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.66 (Mid-2010/Aluminum Unibody) is powered by a 2.66 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" (P8800) processor, featuring a 3 MB on-chip L2 cache and a 1066 MHz frontside bus. It includes 2 GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM (PC3-8500), a 320 GB 3 Gb/s Serial ATA hard drive, an 8X double-layer "SuperDrive", and a NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256 MB of shared system memory.

Connectivity consists of an HDMI port, a Mini DisplayPort, a Firewire "800" port, four USB 2.0 ports, combined "audio line in (digital/analog)" and "audio line out/headphone (digital/analog)" minijacks, a 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet port, built-in AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and an SD (SDXC) card slot.

Unlike previous Mac mini models with polycarbonate cases, the "Mid-2010" line utilizes a "Unibody" enclosure milled from a single piece of aluminum. It has a removable black plastic base on the bottom for easy RAM upgrades, and the power supply is integrated. All Mac mini systems ship without a display, keyboard, or mouse, but many Apple and third-party options are available.

Evaluation

As the top-tier build-to-order option for the consumer Mid-2010 Mac mini, the 2.66GHz model provided a welcome performance boost over the standard configuration. Housed in the then-new, elegant aluminum unibody design, it featured an integrated power supply and user-accessible RAM.[[4](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQE7DRDpN3CWRTMcWnF2qceUb3Mac98CPa10NuIrXySEzWwVHMyfbUFzLjAHYiCO4BxBKLwBGOZ91F65fZJs6ngkfYNQodAedsiRD_UHI3fvTGsYGnOGQXc1vLvJfdLV4fLUduHv_2w67_TQUhBVwe_CvyiQjxtYhcxyMyZt8JnVdffZnXOstw2c)][[5](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQGcLsTe65fd1izAza8WREuTNl0M1Zi5uy_MehZKwbH6priZVckX7gv1MwLYvY0xpvH1X1rHsGUXWXMqCn2ToZVtp9xpUq-cVEixZy0RwRZiZH4ScLLL_aJ5a5pcOkHhoWP3NF2Gjp0VcJCGSvlawf_YIQ%3D%3D)] The Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics provided a significant performance jump over previous generations, making it more capable for media and light gaming.[[3](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQGLzoPGVKjWfiy24QPb-dCbNr2m-KjO-pFmQJcOYURtma3A2DQKSkD270frJl4MydReQTcx86Gz7GjwqU-X7FcXzz-rntbNFoBjmfwl8PhVPasRRn4oX-aK4H-RBcorJptAf1zC_91LA7okR4tS294d83KbEvsmLiFbmtaq9OoBgtGW8w%3D%3D)] The addition of an HDMI port was a major plus for connecting to TVs, although the lack of Blu-ray support was a notable omission for a home theater setup.[[5](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQGcLsTe65fd1izAza8WREuTNl0M1Zi5uy_MehZKwbH6priZVckX7gv1MwLYvY0xpvH1X1rHsGUXWXMqCn2ToZVtp9xpUq-cVEixZy0RwRZiZH4ScLLL_aJ5a5pcOkHhoWP3NF2Gjp0VcJCGSvlawf_YIQ%3D%3D)] Despite these improvements, it was still considered expensive for a machine with a Core 2 Duo processor, especially when compared to more powerful Windows PCs.[[4](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQE7DRDpN3CWRTMcWnF2qceUb3Mac98CPa10NuIrXySEzWwVHMyfbUFzLjAHYiCO4BxBKLwBGOZ91F65fZJs6ngkfYNQodAedsiRD_UHI3fvTGsYGnOGQXc1vLvJfdLV4fLUduHv_2w67_TQUhBVwe_CvyiQjxtYhcxyMyZt8JnVdffZnXOstw2c)] The primary appeal remained its beautiful, compact design and its status as an accessible entry point into the macOS ecosystem.[[4](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQE7DRDpN3CWRTMcWnF2qceUb3Mac98CPa10NuIrXySEzWwVHMyfbUFzLjAHYiCO4BxBKLwBGOZ91F65fZJs6ngkfYNQodAedsiRD_UHI3fvTGsYGnOGQXc1vLvJfdLV4fLUduHv_2w67_TQUhBVwe_CvyiQjxtYhcxyMyZt8JnVdffZnXOstw2c)]
