This Apple Mac mini, the "Core i5" 2.5 (Mid-2011/Aluminum Unibody), is equipped with a 32-nm "Sandy Bridge" 2.5 GHz Intel "Core i5" (2520M) processor, which has two independent "cores" on a single chip and a 3 MB shared L3 cache. It comes with 4 GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM (PC3-10600), a 500 GB hard drive, and AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics with 256 MB of dedicated GDDR5 memory. There is no internal optical drive, but an external unit was available for US$79.
Connectivity options include a Firewire "800" port, four USB 2.0 ports, combined minijacks for "audio line in (digital/analog)" and "audio line out/headphone (digital/analog)", a Gigabit Ethernet port, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0. It also features an SDXC card slot, an HDMI port, and a "Thunderbolt" port. This new Thunderbolt port is backward compatible with Mini DisplayPort, supports an external display up to 2560x1600, carries an audio signal, and works with peripherals using the Thunderbolt standard, offering up to 10 Gbps of bandwidth in both directions.
When compared to its non-server forerunner, the most apparent external distinction is the lack of an optical drive. It also includes the previously mentioned Thunderbolt port and is somewhat lighter. Internally, it features a quicker processor, architecture, RAM, and graphics, in addition to superior wireless capabilities.
By default, all Mac mini systems are configured without a display, keyboard, or mouse, though many Apple and third-party options are available.
