The MacBook Pro "Core i7" 3.1 13-Inch (Early 2015 Retina Display) was first offered as a custom configuration for both the "Core i5" 2.7 and 2.9 13-Inch models, but it is also documented as a separate model for convenience. After October 27, 2016, it became a custom-order option solely for the "Core i5" 2.7 13-Inch model. The main differences between this model and its standard counterparts are the processor and its larger L3 cache.
This model is powered by a 14 nm "Broadwell" 3.1 GHz Intel "Core i7" processor (5557U) with dual independent cores, a 4 MB shared L3 cache, and 8 GB of non-upgradable 1866 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM (a 16 GB option was available at purchase). It includes 128 GB, 256 GB, or 512 GB of 4-Lane PCIe-based flash storage and an integrated Intel Iris Graphics 6100 processor that shares system memory. It also has a built-in 720p FaceTime HD webcam and a high-resolution LED-backlit 13.3" widescreen 2560x1600 (227 ppi) "Retina" display, all in a case that weighs just under 3.5 pounds (1.58 kg). It does not have an internal optical drive.
Connectivity includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports, two "Thunderbolt 2" ports, an HDMI port, an audio in/out port, and an SDXC card slot.
This model also features a backlit keyboard, an innovative haptic-capable "Force Touch" trackpad, and a sealed internal battery that provides an Apple-estimated 10 to 12 hours of use. Compared to its predecessor, this model looks almost identical externally but has a more advanced processor and architecture, a more capable graphics processor, faster RAM and SSD, and a higher-capacity battery, as well as the advanced "Force Touch" trackpad.
