MacBook Core Duo (T2500) 2006

The Apple MacBook "Core Duo" 2.0 13-Inch (Black) is equipped with a 2.0 GHz Intel "Core Duo" processor (T2500), featuring two independent processor "cores" on a single silicon chip. It has a 2 MB shared "on chip" level 2 cache, a 667 MHz frontside bus, and 512 MB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) installed in pairs (two 256 MB modules). The system includes an 80.0 GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM) hard drive with "Sudden Motion Sensor" technology, a 4X slot-loading double-layer read (single-layer write) DVD/CD-RW "SuperDrive", an integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics processor sharing 64 MB of DDR2 SDRAM with main memory, and a 13.3" widescreen TFT active-matrix "glossy" display (1280x800 native resolution).

Like the MacBook Pro "Core Duo" 15-Inch models, the MacBooks provide AirPort Extreme (802.11g), Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a FireWire "400" port, two USB 2.0 ports, and optical digital audio in/out. They also feature video out capabilities (mini-DVI) that, for the first time on an Apple "consumer" notebook, officially support a non-mirrored external display. These models also have the "scrolling TrackPad", a built-in iSight video camera, an Apple Remote for Apple Front Row software, and the inventive "MagSafe" power connector. Unique to the MacBook line is a redesigned "flush against the bed" keyboard that doesn't touch the screen, a "no moving parts" magnetic latch that secures without a catch, and a case designed for easy RAM and hard drive upgrades.

As the top-of-the-line model of the original MacBook, this black version established a special status. It featured a more powerful configuration than the white models, with a 2.0 GHz Core Duo processor and a SuperDrive. Its matte black chassis, partly thanks to the success of the iPod, was highly praised as being very cool and premium, attracting many users with its unique presence. However, its higher price compared to the white models and its tendency to show fingerprints were concerns for some. In terms of performance, it was quite capable for a consumer notebook of its time, though it had limitations for graphics-intensive applications like gaming. Nevertheless, this black model became an iconic machine for design-conscious users.
