Overview

This 16 GB iPod touch 5th Gen (16 GB, 2014) is effectively the same as the 32 GB and 64 GB 5th Gen configurations, but with only 16 GB of storage. It also shipped without the iPod touch loop by default, though it could be purchased separately for US$9. Everyi.com has cross-referenced this model for convenience due to minor differences in identifiers, release year, and pricing.

This model is also similar to the 16 GB version it replaced, but the earlier model had entirely different identifiers, no rear "iSight" camera, and no support for the iPod touch "loop" at all.

The 2014 16 GB iPod touch 5th Gen, like its contemporaries, features a 4" widescreen multi-touch IPS "retina" display (1136x640, 326 ppi) and dual cameras: a 5-megapixel rear "iSight" camera with LED flash (1080p video) and a 1.2-megapixel front "FaceTime HD" camera (720p). It supports Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi, Siri, and AirPlay.

Internally, it is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core A5 processor with 512 MB of RAM and 16 GB of flash storage. Battery life is estimated at 40 hours of music and 8 hours of video. This model uses an aluminum "unibody" case in "space gray" (black front) or silver, pink, yellow, blue, and red (all with a white front).

Evaluation

The 2014 16GB iPod touch was seen as a course correction by Apple, rectifying the unpopular omissions of its 2013 predecessor. By restoring the 5-megapixel iSight rear camera and expanding the color options to match the higher-capacity models, this version was received much more favorably. [4] It effectively made the full-featured 5th-generation experience accessible at a lower price point. For consumers who had been deterred by the previous year's camera-less model, this iPod touch represented a well-rounded package, offering the vibrant Retina display, a capable camera for casual photography, and access to the vast App Store without the premium price of the larger storage tiers. It successfully solidified the iPod touch's position as a versatile media player and a great entry-level iOS device for a broader audience.
