The Apple iPod nano (Third Generation), often called the "fat" iPod by users due to its squat dimensions, resembled a smaller iPod classic more than a successor to the iPod nano (2nd Gen). It was available with 4 GB or 8 GB of flash memory, holding 1000 or 2000 songs, 3500 or 7000 photos, and 4 or 8 hours of video, respectively. The 4 GB version was only available in silver, while the 8 GB models came in silver, light blue, light green, black, and a (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition, with pink added on January 22, 2008. All models featured a chromed stainless steel back.
Compared to the iPod nano (2nd Gen), the most significant enhancements were a larger 2-inch (diagonal) color LCD with a blue-white LED backlight (320x240, 204 ppi), support for on-device video playback, and video output via the dock. Music battery life remained at 24 hours.
The software received a major overhaul, with an interface inspired by "MacOS X Leopard" and the iPhone's OS X version, including a Cover Flow option for album selection. It also came bundled with three games: iQuiz, Klondike, and Vortex.
