Formally named the iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition, this particular iPod nano 2nd Generation model is distinguished by its red aluminum casing and a white clickwheel. Internally, its specifications are identical to the standard iPod nano 2nd Generation. It is available with 4 GB or 8 GB of flash memory, offering capacity for 1000 or 2000 songs and up to 25,000 viewable photos, but it does not support video playback.

Key hardware upgrades for all iPod nano 2nd Generation models over the original iPod nano consist of a longer battery life, rated at 24 hours, and a more luminous 1.5-inch (diagonal) LCD screen. The software was also enhanced with the addition of a search engine.

The vivid crimson shell resisted pocket scuffs, the click-wheel felt snappier, and its 24-hour battery almost doubled stamina over the first nano.
