The Apple iPod U2 Special Edition Fifth Generation (with Video) was internally the same as the 30 GB version of the iPod Fifth Generation (with Video) but cost US$30 more (at US$329). Externally, it featured a red "ClickWheel" and, uniquely for U2 iPods, a "gloss black metal" rear case with the signature laser-etched autographs of the U2 band members.
Like the standard iPod Fifth Generation (with Video), it had a "2.5-inch (diagonal) QVGA transflective over 260,000 color LCD display" (320x240) with a "white LED" backlight. It was capable of holding "up to" 7,500 songs in "128-Kbps AAC format" and "over 1000" 4-minute videos, which could be played on the device or on a TV (at up to 480x480 resolution).
Additionally, like the standard 5th Gen iPod, the U2 version could display photos directly from a digital camera using the optional iPod Camera Connector (US$29) and show slideshows on the internal display or a TV with the included AV cable. The optional Universal Dock (US$39) provided further connectivity and remote support.
Apple reported its battery life as 14 hours of music, 3 hours of slideshows with music, and 2 hours of video playback.
