The Apple iPod U2 Special Edition (with Color Display) was internally identical to the 20 GB version of the iPod (with Color Display). It shipped in a special edition case featuring a black front, a red "ClickWheel," and a stainless steel back with laser-etched signatures of the U2 band members. Like the original U2 iPod, this themed version included an "exclusive" U2 poster, a US$50-off coupon for "The Complete U2" downloadable collection, and the standard white iPod earbuds. It was priced US$30 higher.
It used a 20 GB 4200 RPM ATA-66 hard drive, capable of holding "up to" 5000 songs in "128-Kbps AAC format" and "up to" 20,000 photos in iPod viewable format.
This model supported viewing photos, optionally with music, on its internal display or on a TV/projector via an AV cable (sold separately, along with the dock). It offered up to 15 hours of music and 5 hours of slideshows, though skip protection was reduced to 17 minutes from 25 on the iPod (4th Gen). All iPod (with Color Display) models, including this U2 version, could view images transferred via the optional iPod Camera Connector (US$29).
