Overview

The iPod nano (7th Gen/2.5" Multitouch) is equipped with a 2.5" color TFT display (240x432, 202 ppi) and 16 GB of flash storage, housed in an aluminum body. It was initially available in eight colors: dark gray "slate," silver, purple, pink, yellow, green, blue, and red. On September 10, 2013, Apple replaced the "slate" color with a gunmetal "space gray." The slate and space gray models have a black glass front, while the others have a white one.

Its design resembles a "mini iPod touch" and includes a "home" button (with a circle icon instead of a square), supports a multitouch interface, and runs an iOS-inspired operating system, though it cannot run iOS apps.

Key features include H.264 video playback (720x576), Bluetooth 4.0 for connecting to wireless headphones and speakers, an integrated pedometer, and an FM radio with "live pause." It also supports Nike+iPod, VoiceOver, and "Shake to Shuffle," but does not have a microphone, speaker, or camera.

The 16 GB of flash memory can hold approximately 4000 songs or 14,000 photos. Apple estimates the battery life to be "up to" 30 hours of music playback or 3.5 hours of video playback when fully charged.

Evaluation

The 7th generation iPod nano, released in 2012, was a return to a more traditional candy-bar form factor, but with a modern twist. It featured a larger 2.5-inch multitouch display and a home button, making it feel like a miniature iPod touch. Reviewers praised its thin and light design, and the inclusion of Bluetooth for wireless audio was a major selling point. The FM radio and built-in pedometer also added to its appeal as a versatile media player. However, the 16GB storage capacity was seen as a limitation by some, and the lack of Wi-Fi connectivity meant it was entirely dependent on a computer for content. While it couldn't run iOS apps, its simple, focused interface was a plus for those who wanted a dedicated music player without the distractions of a smartphone. It was a well-rounded device that successfully blended the classic iPod experience with modern features.
