The iPod shuffle (Second Generation - Silver) features a tiny case measuring 1.07 inches tall, 0.98 inches wide, and 0.33 inches deep, comparable in size to the previously released iPod Radio Remote. It includes a built-in clip for easy attachment to clothing. Apple highlighted its compact nature, stating it was nearly "half the size of the original... just half a cubic inch in volume, [and] weighs just half an ounce."
This second-generation model did away with the integrated USB port of its predecessor, instead incorporating a headphone jack that handled connectivity for headphones, music syncing, and charging via a small USB dock. It came with 1 GB of flash memory, capable of holding 240 songs. Lacking a display, it did not support photo slideshows or video playback. Apple estimated its battery life at 12 hours.
On January 30, 2007, Apple released a colored line of iPod shuffle models in orange, green, blue, and pink, alongside silver. The silver model from this "Colors" series is identical to this one, except it shipped with revised earbuds designed to fit without foam caps—a feature introduced with the iPod 5th Gen Enhanced and iPod nano 2nd Gen—and its packaging used gray text instead of green.
