All iPhone 12 Pro Max models feature a 6.7-inch (diagonal) haptic-touch "Super Retina XDR" display (2778x1284, 458 ppi, 800 nits max brightness) that occupies almost the entire front. It has four cameras. The front "TrueDepth" camera, located in the "notch," supports "Advanced Face ID," captures 12-megapixel photos, shoots 4K video, and includes software features like Portrait mode. The rear houses a 4K video-capable "pro 12 megapixel camera system" with three cameras: an Ultra Wide (f/2.4 aperture, 120-degree field of view), a Wide (f/1.6 aperture, with sensor-shift optical image stabilization), and a Telephoto (f/2.2 aperture). Apple highlights that the iPhone 12 Pro Max's "computational photography" enhances low-light performance and reduces noise compared to its predecessors.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is built with a partially "surgical grade" stainless steel case with flat polished stainless steel sides and has a glass front and back. The front is protected by a "Ceramic Shield" cover for improved durability, and the back has an integrated "MagSafe" magnetic charging connector. It is rated IP68 for splash, water, and dust resistance (maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes). It is available in four colors: a medium-toned "Graphite," silver, gold, and "Pacific" blue.
Internally, the device is powered by a 64-bit 3.0 GHz "Apple A14 Bionic" processor with six cores (two performance, four high-efficiency) and a 16-core Neural Engine. It comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB, 256 GB, or 512 GB of flash storage. Connectivity options include 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 with 2x2 MIMO, 5G wireless, Bluetooth 5.0, Ultra Wideband for "spatial awareness," NFC for Apple Pay, "Express Cards with power reserve," a LiDAR scanner, and the previously mentioned dual nano SIMs.
Apple's battery life estimates for the iPhone 12 Pro Max are "up to" 80 hours of audio playback, 20 hours of video playback, and 12 hours of streamed video playback.
In mainland China, this model was initially priced at RMB 9,299, RMB 10,099, and RMB 11,899 for the 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB storage options, respectively. Various subsidized carrier options and trade-in discounts were also available.
