Overview

It should be noted that this "CDMA" A1429 iPhone 5 model, compatible with LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 13, and 25, was specifically intended for CDMA carriers, namely Sprint and Verizon in the US, and KDDI in Japan.

Regardless of network specifics, all iPhone 5 models feature a 4-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch IPS LED-backlit "retina display" with an 1136x640 resolution (326 ppi). They have dual cameras—a rear 8-megapixel, 1080p "iSight" camera and a front 1.2-megapixel, 720p "FaceTime HD" camera. These models support 4G/LTE and are enclosed in a slim, 0.30-inch aluminum "unibody" case with a glass front, offered in either dark gray "slate" with a black front or silver with a white front.

The iPhone 5 is driven by a 1.3 GHz dual-core "Apple A6" processor, includes 1 GB of RAM, and is available with 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB of flash storage. It also supports dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, three noise-canceling microphones, a bottom-mounted headphone jack, and the new USB 2.0-based Lightning port.

Apple's battery performance estimates for the iPhone 5 models are up to 40 hours of audio playback, 8 hours of 3G talk time, 8 hours of 3G internet use, 8 hours of 4G/LTE internet use, 10 hours of Wi-Fi internet use, 10 hours of video playback, and a standby time of 225 hours.

In the United States, this "CDMA" A1429 iPhone 5 was available locked to Sprint with a two-year contract, or unlocked but still tied to a two-year Verizon contract. Both carriers offered the 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB models for US$199, US$299, and US$399, respectively.

Evaluation

The iPhone 5 achieved exceptional recognition as a technological tour de force, with reviewers universally praising its refined aluminum chassis that represented a significant departure from previous glass designs. Industry experts highlighted the device's impressive LTE capabilities and processing power, which delivered performance improvements that exceeded typical generational upgrades. The model garnered particular acclaim for its photographic capabilities and battery efficiency, establishing new expectations for premium smartphone experiences. Its success in both CDMA and GSM markets demonstrated Apple's ability to create universally appealing hardware that transcended traditional carrier limitations.
