On October 4, 2011, Apple replaced the original 16 GB and 32 GB iPhone 4 (GSM) models with this lower-cost 8 GB version. While similar to its forerunner, this model, sometimes known as "Revision A," carries distinct identifiers (most notably the unique iPhone3,2 Model ID), prompting EveryiPhone.com to list it as a separate model.
Just like its higher-capacity predecessor, this 8 GB iPhone 4 features an all-stainless steel body. It boasts a 3.5-inch, high-density IPS LED-backlit 960x640 "retina" display at 326 ppi. The mobile and data antennas are integrated into the surrounding metal band. Both the front display and the black or white back panel are made of chemically hardened "aluminosilicate" glass, with an "oleophobic" oil-repellent coating on both surfaces.
It also retains the dual-camera setup: a 5-megapixel rear camera capable of HD video (720p at 30 FPS) with a backside illuminated sensor, 5X digital zoom, and an LED flash, plus a front-facing VGA-quality camera designed for FaceTime video calls over Wi-Fi. It also includes dual noise-canceling microphones.
This iPhone 4 (GSM, Revision A) is driven by an Apple A4 processor of undisclosed speed, equipped with 512 MB of RAM, and offers 8 GB of storage. Network connectivity includes UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), along with 802.11g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. It is also equipped with a digital compass, A-GPS, an accelerometer, and a 3-axis gyroscope.
Apple's battery life estimates for all iPhone 4 models are up to 40 hours of audio, 14 hours of 2G talk time, 7 hours of 3G talk time, 6 hours of 3G internet use, 10 hours of Wi-Fi internet use, 10 hours of video playback, and 300 hours of standby.
Introduced on October 4, 2011, this lower-end 8 GB "Revision A" iPhone 4 (GSM) was priced at US$99 with a two-year AT&T contract, or US$549 unlocked.
On September 12, 2012, the price was reduced to US$0 with a two-year contract or US$450 unlocked. It was discontinued on September 10, 2013, except in mainland China, where it remained for sale at RMB 2,588 until September 9, 2014.
