Overview

It is important to know that this A1785 iPhone 7 Plus model was sold exclusively for the Japanese market. It supports FDD-LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30, and most significantly, includes support for Sony's FeliCa for contactless payments via iD and QuicPay, plus Suica on JR East. It was designed for use on Softbank, AU (KDDI), and NTT DoCoMo in Japan.

All iPhone 7 Plus models, regardless of carrier, have a 5.5-inch widescreen multitouch LED-backlit 1920x1080 "Retina HD" display (401 ppi, 625 cd/m2) and a solid-state, taptic-engine-powered "clickless" Home button. The device has three cameras: dual rear 12-megapixel cameras (one wide-angle f/1.8, one telephoto f/2.8) that use software for a 2x optical zoom and a 10x digital zoom, along with optical image stabilization, a six-element lens, and wide color capture. The front "FaceTime HD" camera is 7 megapixels and records 1080p video.

The iPhone 7 Plus has an aluminum body, is IP67-rated for splash, water, and dust resistance (not waterproof), and features stereo speakers and a Lightning port, but no traditional headphone jack. Initially, it was available in five colors: "silver," "gold," "rose gold," "black" (matte), and "jet black" (glossy), with Apple warning the jet black finish could show micro-abrasions. A (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition was offered from March 21 to September 12, 2017.

Internally, it is powered by a 64-bit quad-core "Apple A10 Fusion" processor, 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB, 128 GB, or 256 GB of storage. (Jet black and red were initially 128/256 GB only; a 32 GB jet black model was added and the 256 GB option was discontinued for all colors on Sept 12, 2017). It also supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, LTE (4G), and NFC for Apple Pay (with this Japan-specific model adding FeliCa support).

Apple estimates up to 60 hours of audio, 21 hours of 3G talk time, 13 hours of 3G/LTE internet, 15 hours of Wi-Fi internet, 14 hours of wireless video, and 16 days of standby.

In Japan, although prices were later reduced, this model was initially sold unlocked and contract-free for ¥85,800 (32 GB), ¥96,800 (128 GB), and ¥107,800 (256 GB).

Professional evaluations consistently highlighted how the device maintained all globally acclaimed features including Portrait Mode and optical zoom capabilities while seamlessly incorporating Suica transit payments and local commerce solutions. Industry analysts recognized this implementation as a technological masterpiece that demonstrated Apple's ability to enhance premium smartphone experiences through thoughtful regional customization. Critics emphasized that this model represented a significant evolution in Apple's market strategy, successfully bridging cutting-edge camera innovation with deeply embedded Japanese consumer lifestyle requirements.
