Overview

It's important to know that this A1902 iPhone X model was sold exclusively for the Japanese market. It supports FDD-LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, and 66, and TD-LTE bands 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, and 42. Most notably, it includes support for Sony's FeliCa for contactless payments via iD and QuicPay, plus Suica on JR East. It was designed for use on Softbank, AU, and NTT DoCoMo in Japan.

All iPhone X models feature a 3D-touch capable 5.8-inch OLED HDR "Super Retina" display (2436x1125, 458 ppi) covering nearly the entire front, with the "Home" button replaced by a "Face ID" facial recognition system. It has three cameras: a front "TrueDepth" camera in the "notch" for Face ID, 7MP photos, and 1080p video with Portrait mode support, and dual rear 12MP cameras (wide-angle f/1.8 and telephoto f/2.4) with OIS, shooting 4K photos and video with AR capabilities.

The iPhone X has a "surgical-grade stainless steel" case with a glass front and back, is IP67-rated for splash, water, and dust resistance (not waterproof), and includes stereo speakers and a Lightning port. It was offered in "Space Gray" and silver.

Internally, it is powered by a 64-bit, six-core "Apple A11 Bionic" processor, has 3 GB of RAM, and 64 GB or 256 GB of storage. It supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, LTE (4G), and NFC for Apple Pay. The glass back allows for Qi-standard wireless charging.

Apple estimates up to 60 hours of audio, 21 hours of talk time, 12 hours of internet use, and 13 hours of wireless video playback. In the US, pricing for this model started at US$999 (unlocked), with various carrier installment and upgrade plans also available.

Evaluation

The Japan-exclusive iPhone X variant distinguished itself through thoughtful localization that demonstrated Apple's commitment to regional market needs. Technology reviewers in Japan particularly appreciated the integration of Sony's FeliCa technology, which enabled seamless compatibility with the country's extensive contactless payment infrastructure. The device maintained all the revolutionary features of the global iPhone X while adding crucial functionality for Japanese consumers' daily transactions. Industry analysts praised Apple's strategic decision to customize hardware specifically for the Japanese market, recognizing the importance of supporting local payment systems like Suica, iD, and QuicPay. The model's technical excellence combined with market-specific adaptations earned respect from both consumers and critics who valued the balance between global innovation and local practicality. This regional variant exemplified how premium smartphones could successfully merge cutting-edge technology with culturally relevant features.
