Overview

It's important to know that this A1905 iPhone 8 model supports FDD-LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, and 66, plus TD-LTE bands 34, 38, 39, 40, and 41. It is designed for AT&T and T-Mobile in the US (lacking CDMA support for Verizon/Sprint) but formally supports carriers in Canada, the UK, the EU, and most other countries, excluding Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and India.

All iPhone 8 models feature a 4.7-inch widescreen multitouch "True Tone" LED-backlit 1334x750 "Retina HD" display (326 ppi, 625 cd/m2) and a solid-state, taptic-engine-powered "clickless" Home button. It has dual cameras: a rear 12-megapixel 4K camera with OIS, an f/1.8 aperture, a six-element lens, and wide color capture, plus a front 7-megapixel "FaceTime HD" camera supporting 1080p video. The cameras also support motion tracking and augmented reality.

The iPhone 8 has a steel-reinforced, "aerospace-grade" aluminum alloy case with a glass front and back. It is IP67-rated for splash, water, and dust resistance (not waterproof), and includes stereo speakers and a Lightning port. Initially offered in gold, silver, or "Space Gray," a (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition was also sold from April 9 to September 12, 2018.

Internally, the iPhone 8 is driven by a 64-bit, six-core "Apple A11 Bionic" processor, has 2 GB of RAM, and came with 64 GB, 128 GB, or 256 GB of storage (128 GB option added and 256 GB option removed on Sept 10, 2019). It also supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, LTE (4G), and NFC for Apple Pay. The glass back enables Qi-standard wireless charging.

Apple estimates the iPhone 8 provides up to 40 hours of audio, 14 hours of talk time, 12 hours of internet use, and 13 hours of wireless video playback. In the US, it was initially sold unlocked and contract-free for US$699 (64 GB) or US$849 (256 GB). Various carrier installment and upgrade programs were also available. After several price adjustments and storage changes, the iPhone 8 was fully discontinued on April 15, 2020.

Evaluation

The iPhone 8 received widespread critical recognition for introducing wireless charging capabilities to Apple's smartphone lineup while delivering substantial camera improvements that impressed professional photographers and technology reviewers alike. Consumer Reports testing confirmed the device achieved "excellent" performance ratings, particularly praising its exceptional balance of processing speed, camera quality, and overall user experience refinement. Industry evaluations consistently highlighted the revolutionary A11 Bionic processor, which benchmark testing revealed to be the fastest smartphone chip available at launch, establishing new performance standards that competitors struggled to match. Critics extensively praised the enhanced 4K video recording capabilities and improved low-light photography performance, while noting that the introduction of True Tone display technology provided superior color accuracy compared to previous iPhone generations.
