Overview

Please be aware that this "CDMA" A1453 iPhone 5s model, supporting LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, and 26, as well as both CDMA EV-DO and GSM, is designed for Sprint in the US and KDDI and Softbank in Japan.

Advertised as the "most forward-thinking smartphone in the world" upon release, all iPhone 5s models feature a 4-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch IPS LED-backlit "retina display" with a 1136x640 resolution (326 ppi). They have dual cameras: a rear 8-megapixel, 1080p "iSight" camera with 1.5-micron pixels, an f/2.2 aperture, and a dual-LED "True Tone" flash, plus a front 1.2-megapixel, 720p "FaceTime" camera.

The iPhone 5s is offered in three metallic finishes: "space gray" (black glass front, gunmetal gray aluminum back), "gold" (white glass front, gold aluminum back), and "silver" (white glass front, silver aluminum back). The gold option was discontinued on September 9, 2015. All colors feature a "Touch ID" fingerprint sensor in the home button, which lacks the traditional rounded square icon.

This iPhone 5s is powered by a 1.3 GHz 64-bit "Apple A7" processor, has 1 GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and was available with 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB of storage (the 64 GB option was discontinued on September 9, 2014). It supports dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and 4G/LTE. It includes a bottom-mounted headphone jack and uses the "Lightning" connector.

Apple's battery life estimates for the iPhone 5s are up to 40 hours of audio playback, 10 hours of 3G talk time, 8 hours of 3G internet use, 10 hours of 4G/LTE internet use, 10 hours of Wi-Fi internet use, 10 hours of video playback, and 250 hours of standby.

In the US, this "CDMA" A1453 iPhone 5s was initially sold subsidized and locked to Sprint for US$199 (16 GB), US$299 (32 GB), or US$399 (64 GB) with a two-year contract. On September 9, 2014, the 64 GB option was discontinued, and the 16 GB and 32 GB prices dropped to US$99 and US$149 with a contract. On September 9, 2015, the prices for the 16 GB and 32 GB models were further reduced to US$0 and US$49 with a contract. The model was fully discontinued on March 21, 2016.

Evaluation

The iPhone 5s garnered universal acclaim from technology critics who hailed it as a masterpiece of engineering and design refinement. Industry reviewers were particularly impressed by the revolutionary Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which transformed smartphone security and paved the way for mobile payments. The 64-bit A7 processor stunned benchmarking enthusiasts and established Apple's leadership in mobile silicon development. Professional evaluations consistently praised the enhanced camera system with its dual-LED True Tone flash and improved low-light performance. The introduction of the elegant gold color option alongside the sophisticated space gray finish demonstrated Apple's continued ability to set design trends while delivering substantive technological advances.
